Prayer Focus: Wisdom for our Leaders

Gracious heavenly Father, we come before You today on behalf of our leaders. Leaders in government, leaders in churches, leaders in our communities and families. We ask that You would give them wisdom from above. If they lead in positions of governance, whether Presidents, Prime Ministers, Monarchs, Governors, Senators, Representatives, Statesmen, or in any other official capacity, we ask that you would give them the wisdom to act in ways that lead to the best for their subjects as well as honor You.

In our churches, give our leaders; Pastors, Elders, Deacons, and others, the wisdom to know how to apply your Word in order that Your people would grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Lead them to serve in love, and to be humble, knowing that they answer to You for their stewardship of Your people. Give them hearts that are tender and receptive to correction from You.

In our communities we know that we have many unofficial leaders, those people of influence who often work quietly behind the scenes. We ask that You would give them wisdom from above in order that their influence would not lead any astray. Allow them to see the solemn duty to use whatever influence they possess in Godly ways.

In our families, we pray that Fathers and Mothers, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and others would have the wisdom to raise children who will grow strong in the faith. We pray that they would exercise the right mixture of discipline and nurture so that children would learn to honor authority, knowing that it comes from You, as well as develop the compassion that is so sadly lacking in our world today.

We ask that all of us would act in the ways of wisdom and not foolishness, even on social media platforms like Facebook. Let us not bring dishonor to You and to the cause of the Gospel. We fail in this is so many ways, not recognizing that we will be judged for every idle word. Curb our tongues and our typing fingers for Your glory and honor. May Your Holy Spirit of truth make us both truthful and loving in all of our interactions with others.

We bring these requests to You in the name of the One who modelled true servant leadership, the One who is the font of all wisdom, the One who is the eternal Word of God incarnate, Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
