Pastor

Pastor Jerry Minor has served Riverside since October 1989, soon after graduating from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv 1989) in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Jerry has been married to his wife Barbara since June 1978. Jerry and Barbara have two children and six grandchildren.

Jerry grew up as an “Army brat”, but went to High School in El Paso, Texas, Barbara’s hometown. He is also a US Army veteran, having served on active duty in Ft. Knox, Kentucky and Taegu, Korea. His military career ended as a result of a tank accident at Ft. Hood while serving with the Texas Army National Guard.

Jerry has been a follower of Christ Jesus since July 1972.  As he continues to follow Christ he is reminded of the words of John Newton, author of “Amazing Grace”:

“I am not what I ought to be — ah, how imperfect and deficient! I am not what I wish to be — I abhor what is evil, and I would cleave to what is good! I am not what I hope to be — soon, soon shall I put off mortality, and with mortality all sin and imperfection. Yet, though I am not what I ought to be, nor what I wish to be, nor what I hope to be, I can truly say, I am not what I once was; a slave to sin and Satan; and I can heartily join with the apostle, and acknowledge, ‘By the grace of God I am what I am’.”
